Criminal records harmonized with new penal code

Parliament's General Assembly has taken an important step by adopting a motion that opens the way for amendments to the Criminal Record Law to be included within the new Turkish Penal Code (TCK), which will become effective as of June 1.

The law determines the procedures required to store, classify, evaluate and preserve information regarding criminal records through the use of a central system.

The criminal records of Turkish citizens at home or abroad and of foreigners who commit offenses in Turkey will be transferred to a central computer system and kept by the Central Criminal Records Office within the Justice Ministry's Criminal Records and Statistics General Directorate.
