Packed pleasure boat sinks in Turkey; four drowned

Four people drowned overnight off a popular resort on Turkey’s southern Mediterranean coast when a packed pleasure boat steered by an unlicenced skipper sank, officials said yesterday.

The sub-governor of the resort of Alanya, Gunhan Sarikaya, said the boat sank because it was overcrowded, having taken more than 100 passengers on board even though its capacity allowed for much less, Anatolia news agency reported.
