Passenger train rams into truck, 10 die, 17 injured

Train accident leaves 10 dead and 17 others wounded near Mersin; another blot on Turkey's deadly train accident record

A passenger train rammed into a truck carrying farm workers in southern Turkey yesterday, killing 10 people and injuring at least 17 others, officials said.

It was the nation's fourth major rail accident in the last one-and-a-half years.

The accident occurred near the town of Tarsus, close to the Mediterranean port city of Mersin. All of the casualties were apparently from the truck.
