TVs and Radios may commence broadcasting in Kurdish in 2006

Local radio and television channels will be able to broadcast programs in languages other than Turkish, starting in January 2006.

Members of Turkey's Supreme Board of Radio and Television (RTUK) ruled on a regulation in a Tuesday meeting to allow Kurdish and other dialects to be broadcast on radio and television stations.

RTUK Chairman Zahid Akman told press conference on Wednesday in Ankara that the TV channels and Radio stations would commence broadcasting in languages other than Turkish in January if they completed the necessary documents.
