Student sentenced to 10 months prison for holding PKK flag

A court in the southeastern province of Diyarbakır on Thursday sentenced a university student to 10 months in prison for holding up a banner emblazoned with the flag of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) alongside the Turkish and the EU flags at a demonstration last year. Berat Birtek's lawyer Servet Özen said he would appeal the ruling.
