ISTANBUL, April 22 (Reuters) - Fenerbahce thrashed arch-rivals Galatasaray 4-0 on Saturday to knock them off top spot in the Turkish championship.
The stunning result puts Fenerbahce level with Galatasaray on 74 points with three games remaining but they lead the standings by virtue of a better goal difference.
Turkish media had billed the clash between the Istanbul giants at Fenerbahce's Sukru Saracoglu stadium on the Asian side of the city as the "mother of all derbies".
A victory for Galatasaray, the 2000 UEFA Cup winners, would almost certainly have clinched the championship.
