The Turkish Foreign Ministry has warned that the failure to heed the ruling from the European Court of Human Rights regarding the retrial of Abdullah Ocalan would carry a high price tag. In the event that Turkey were not to carry out the ruling, the Foreign Ministry has listed these possible results:
* A warning letter would arrive
* The Committee of European Ministers would warn Turkey
* After inspection by the Committee of European Ministers, Turkey could be taken out of the European Council
* General pressure on Turkey would increase
* Sympathy for Ocalan in the West would increase
* There would be a negative effect on Turkey's bid for EU accession
