Police spokesman Ismail Çalışkan said on Friday that they had no expectations of a terrorist attack against Turkey, despite an earlier statement made by Şammaz Demirtaş, the deputy chief of the Istanbul police department, who had told a daily that there was a possibility of al-Qaeda carrying out an attack in Turkey over the next few months.
In his weekly security briefing, Çalışkan said: “The police have been uninterruptedly maintaining their struggle against fundamentalist and separatist terrorist organizations in Turkey; however, we do not expect an attack on Turkey.” Demirtaş had said he expected an attack in Turkey by November.
