Van dean cleared on some charges

The rector of Van’s Yuzuncu Yil University was cleared of charges that he had stolen historical artefacts by a court in the eastern Turkish city Thursday.

However, Professor Askin is still in detention as he faces further charges of forgery and corruption.

Professor Yucel Askin had been charged under the Protection of Cultural & Historical Heritage law after a number of historical artefacts were found during a search of his home last month.
