Tokat bus tragedy death toll rises to 22

The death toll following yesterday morning's plunge of a passenger bus into a river in Tokat province has now reached 22, after 5 more bodies were located during searches on Thursday. So far the survivor count has been put at 11.

Efforts to locate the bodies of missing passengers continued today at the scene of the accident at the Kelkit River in the Resadiye district in the north central Turkish province of Tokat. A 100-ton crane brought to the location was used to lift the bus out of the river where it had been almost totally submerged by the water.

Many bodies were carried downstream from the bus making search work more difficult. On Thursday morning one body was found at a distance of one kilometre from the accident scene.

The bus was traveling from Istanbul to Van when it went off the road and plunged into the
Kelkit River.
